Elliptical Trainer Review

February 21st, 2012

I have the Nordic Track Adiostrider 800 elliptical cross trainer. The display "distance" is measured in total revolutions and the "speed" is measured in revolutions/minute. The stride length is 18 inches. If the distance says that I do 1200 total revolutions how far did I go in miles? If my speed averages 50 revolutions/minute how fast am I going in mph. Do you know what I found? If a 'revolution' is 1 stride, then you've done: 1200 revolutions * 18 inches/revolution = 21600 inches 21600 inches * (1 foot / 12 inches) * (1 mile / 5280 feet) = 0. 34 miles or about 1/3 of a mile. . 1200 rev. / 50 rev. = (1/3)miles / x miles x = 0. 014204545 miles/ minute 0. 014204545 (miles/ minute) * (60 min. / hr) = 0. 85 (miles / hour)

Proform Elliptical Reviews

I just need to tone up for a vacation in a month. Well, I've your answer right here. It is true that you can use the momentum from the eliptical to your advantage, but you do get a good workout from it. it is also a lot easier on your joints. take it from a person who has horrible knees- it is a lot easier on your joints then a high impact activity like running. I used an eliptical 4-5 days a week for a month for about 30-45 minutes a day and saw a drastic improvement in my cardiovascular fitness. the eliptical will burn calories, so it is up to you to cut your intake of calories back to promote weight loss. good luck..

Best Elliptical Reviews

Elliptical seems a lot easier, I only do it because after i'm done running on the treadmill my left knee kills. I also burn a lot more calories on the elliptical. I enjoy running and I have to get used to it because I am leaving for bootcamp at the end of this upcoming summer. Essentially — You are absolutely right in your own assessment. . The elliptical machine is used to reduce stress on the joints. However, even though it is a great alternative to running (providing all the same sort of aerobic activity), unfortunately it is not a substitute for the actual action of running. Try to figure out why your knee hurts. Perhaps you need to do a little cross training to build up the inside quad muscles because you have overdeveloped the outside ones through running. Some knee/leg extensions on a weight machine might help out in this regard. If you overdevelop one side, it can pull things out of joint and create problems for you. You need to balance your muscle development.

It came today. Its a proform 800 HR elliptical trainer and its all put together properly but the central bar which the handlebars are connected to seems to shake about quite a lot – my husband says it probably needs to move a bit and looking at videos of other proform cross trainers and the bar does seem to move quite a lot but my last one – different make only did that cos I had washers wrong – then it fell apart so I'm worried. Essentially — Take it back this should not be happening ^Idiots^

Used Cross Trainer

February 3rd, 2012

In this dynamic and busy society, it has become a challenge to stay physically fit and healthy. People have got used to doing more than one job at a time. As a result, we are gaining wealth in expense of our health. The root cause is quite simple. We have been busy to perform even the simplest exercises. We have become very reluctant to go to the gym considering that we have to spend money for transportation and membership fees. The solution is actually practical- create your own home gym.

With the situation previously mentioned, you can consider a home gym as the most practical way to maintain a healthy body. You will be able to eliminate the transportation and gym membership issues that would usually prevent you to perform exercises. Nevertheless, you may be thinking of the budget in acquiring the equipment to run your own home gym. Well, you can always start by getting one at a time. You can start with elliptical cross trainer. Here are some practical tips when choosing one.

The conventional way of performing a daily exercise always begins with stretching then jogging then running. This requires most of your time and so much of your effort. The effect is a strenuous experience with an uncertain physical effect to the muscle and bones. Before the home gym equipment came, this has been a habit that we have to endure every day. This has also been the reason why most people quite the healthy habit. With the use of elliptical cross trainer, you will get almost the same amount of calories burned and movement of reflexes without the pain. Using this equipment involves minimal coordination of the different parts of the body including the muscles and joints.

Due to the market competition, you will find yourself a variety of cross trainers. You will probably look for the cheapest cross trainer available. You have to realize though that elliptical cross trainer is designed to provide the benefits of strenuous physical activities without the actual stress on different parts of the body. That design requires quality of materials to build. Anything cheap is most likely to compromise the strength and durability of the equipment.

These are some of the features that you have to assess before purchasing high quality elliptical cross trainer. The most significant part of this equipment is the braking system. It will help you use it easier by programming it to the level appropriate for your activities. Most elliptical trainers are equipped with magnetic brakes.

A pattern that gives the natural feel of striding can be obtained through the lower body movement feature. Although it is usually dependent on the user, it will usually give you the feeling of smoothness during the different stages of movements. It doesn't have the plate that alters direction abruptly at it goes toward the end of the equipment.

In order to support the striding effect on the lower body, the elliptical cross trainer has been designed to have a stationary grip that would never put you down by changing its directions. High quality equipment should give you the security of grip.

These are the basic features of an elliptical cross trainer that you have to look out for before purchasing. Although cost can be an issue to acquire high quality equipment, realize that the purpose each purpose serves comes with your goal to keep up in shape.

Physical Fitness Equipment

January 26th, 2012

Like as in Firefighting training, a female has only to carry (drag) 40 #'s of equipment up 2 flights of stairs, while the male has to carry 90#'s up 5 flights of stairs. Yet both get judged as "outstanding" on that. I saw a news story on TV after an apartment fire, they found the one female "firefighter" to interview, she said "Yes it was tough, but WE did it, WE got right in there and did our job" She looked like she just showed up for work, the real (men) Firefighters were covered with soot and wore out. Yes there are some, that can handle that, but a 90# female? I will get the usual "I know many women that can kick your butt", so what, so could my mother, till I turned 12 years old, she knows better than to try that now. And of course the attacks about my grammar, that's all they got in response. And those that cry-baby to Yahoo "Fred said the truth, he made me feel bad". . . . . . . XOXOXOXOXOXOXO Fred. Watch the "Documentry" on A&E (?) called "The Academy", Sheriff training in LA, the females (most) there could barely walk a 100 yards, let alone run, but they were made Deputies. A true thing on there. Citicop, but let A white cop, shoot a black guy in self defence, can't do that, need to subdue them without harm. You need to get out more. I was so glad to find this — It was popular in years past to have different standards based on gender and age. Due to discrimination and equal opportunity laws everyone should have the same standard now. If a department is still using a double standard, they are probably in violation.

The 2009-2014 World Outlook For Physical Fitness Equipment
The 2009-2014 World Outlook For Physical Fitness Equipment

THE METHODOLOGY. In order to estimate the latent demand for aesthetic equipment on a worldwide basis, I used a multi-stage approach. Before applying the approach, one needs a basic theory from which such estimates are created. In this case, I heavily rely on the use of certain basic economic assumptions. In particular, there is an assumption governing the shape and type of aggregate latent demand functions. Latent demand functions relate the income of a country, city, state, household, or individual to realized consumption. Latent demand (often realized as consumption when an industry is efficient), at any level of the value chain, takes place if an equilibrium is realized. For firms to serve a market, they must perceive a latent demand and be able to serve that demand at a minimal return. The single most important variable determining consumption, assuming latent demand exists, is income (or other financial resources at higher levels of the value chain). Other factors that can pivot or shape demand curves include external or exogenous shocks (i.e. business cycles), and or changes in utility for the product in question.

I've been trying to workout more. The best I've done so far is the elliptical a few times a week. But I've noticed my thighs being bigger than they use to be. I could be going crazy. But what does the elliptical do for you body? I want to be skinner, not muscular. Today I found out that… The elliptical allows you to do a fluid motion for a cardio workout. It is much less stress on the joints than a treadmill. Since you are working your legs somewhat, they will increase in muscle mass. A larger, firm thigh is considerably sexier than a thin, flabby thigh.

Elliptical Trainer Treadmill

January 6th, 2012

We live in a society obsessed with losing weight and getting fit. In response there are countless products on the market that claim to get you in shape. Most are fads that come and go. For example, how many people are still working out with a Thigh Master. But, occasionally an exercise machine is designed that gets results. It promotes fitness and wellness. It helps both novice and fitness enthusiasts reach their exercise goals. It has 'staying' power!

The two most popular fitness machines that fit this qualification are treadmills and elliptical trainers. The tried and true treadmill has been around for years. It remains popular due to its appeal to both novice and seasoned athletes. It is a simple machine that requires no special skills, all you need to do is walk, jog or run.

Although relatively new in comparison to a treadmill, the elliptical trainer is growing in popularity. In shear numbers the treadmill outsells ellipticals, but by percentage the elliptical is gaining in sales. It offers the benefit of a total body workout without the impact.

How do treadmills compare with elliptical training equipment? What benefits do each machine offer? Could either be right for you?

Treadmills are the most popular fitness equipment. They are simple to use and provide an excellent cardiovascular workout. Treadmills allow you to walk, jog or run. In addition, they can simulate hill climbing.

In shear numbers running and walking are the most popular form of exercise. Whether you are a casual walker or a serious runner, a treadmill can accommodate your exercise needs. By setting the speed and incline you can adjust your cardio workout to any level – from casual walking to heart pounding running.

Most power treadmills offer a number of pre-set programs and intensity levels from which to choose. On these particular machines, you may program in your personal information (i. e. age, weight, height, fitness level, etc. ). Then, you may choose a pre-set program (such as 'killer hill,' 'interval training' or 'weight-loss'), and the unit will automatically adjust the workout to fit your specifications.

You can bypass the pre-set programs and manually adjust the incline, speed, and the time yourself. And, even if you've chosen a pre-set program, you have the option of changing the incline level or speed level at any time.

Running on a treadmill with a nicely cushioned running surface provides less impact on the knees, shins, ankles, back, and joints than does running on pavement. As a result, the runner who uses a treadmill is less likely to sustain a running injury than a runner who runs upon a harder surface. (Nonetheless, a runner's body will still experience impact when the foot lands on the belt. )

Outdoors, you could possibly trip over a rock or twist your ankle in an unseen hole in the ground. You don't have to worry about unseen road or trail hazards when exercising on a treadmill. You need only maintain your rhythm on the moving belt.

Treadmills not only efficiently burn calories, but their impact reducing surfaces decrease the chances for injuries.

Elliptical Trainers

Elliptical trainers are relatively new to the fitness equipment industry. They have increased in popularity during the last few years, and the rate of growth is surpassing treadmills. But, do they deliver what they promise – a low impact, total body workout?

Elliptical trainers allow the user to burn a similar number of calories as they would from walking or jogging – but without the risk of injury to the back, knees, hips, or ankles. The difference in comparison to a treadmill is your feet never leave the foot pedals.

As a result, an elliptical is very low-impact and significantly reduces the pressure on your joints. In fact, whereas exercising on a treadmill requires your body to absorb the impact of walking or running, exercising on an elliptical can be compared to running in midair. Running can result in 2. 5x your body weight impacting a treadmill.

Because of the low impact quality of an elliptical trainer, this machine may be the best choice for older people or individuals who are recovering from injuries. That is the obvious reason ellipticals are so popular with us baby boomers. Our joints are starting to tell us they've had enough.
Elliptical machines mimic the normal elliptical motion of the foot, the extension of the leg, and the rotation of the hip during walking or running. This motion uses all the leg muscles, giving you a total lower-body workout.

But what makes an elliptical workout so enticing is you also get a upper body workout (unlike the treadmill, which works only the lower body)! As the feet go through their elliptical motion, the hands grip the moving handlebars, exercising the arms. The movement of the dual handlebars mimics cross-country skiing. This particular type of upper body workout will not result in a bodybuilder's physique. However, because you are including the upper 30% of your body in your workouts, the results will be more efficient exercise in less time.

Because elliptical trainers DO work the upper and lower body simultaneously, the heart rate climbs more quickly. Thus, less time is required to achieve more results. The amount of energy expended is optimized. As the legs are being worked, the back, shoulders, chest, biceps, and triceps are also working. . . making it possible to burn more calories in less time. (An optimal workout need only be about 20-30 minutes long, if you apply the right amount of resistance. )

Another advantage of elliptical trainers are the foot pedals can be worked in a forward or reverse direction. When you change the direction of the pedals, you'll target your lower body in different ways. It is nice to be able to add versatility to your elliptical workouts, and such a change works to ensure optimal training of the leg muscles.

The intensity level can be adjusted on elliptical equipment to fit your personal level of fitness. Resistance may be added as desired to increase the workload on your legs throughout the forward or backward stride. With such an efficient workout, you can say 'goodbye' to flabby thighs and derrieres!

Studies show working out on an elliptical trainer can trick the body into believing it is working easier than it actually is. Therefore, as you're burning more calories in less time on an elliptical trainer, your body feels as though it doesn't have to work as hard to achieve its goals. This phenomenon is known as the "Rate of Perceived Exertion. "

An elliptical device is safe to use (i. e. it stops when you stop). It uses very little electricity and is economical to operate. Because of its low impact, there is less wear and tear of the machine, making maintenance quite low. It has a small footprint, so it takes up less floor space than other fitness equipment. And, as with the treadmill, it allows you to exercise in a controlled environment for more comfort and convenience.

And the Winner Is!

Which is better, a treadmill or elliptical trainer? Both give an excellent cardio workout and when used regularly will burn unwanted calories.

For a walking or running devotee, the treadmill is the machine of choice. Even if you prefer the great outdoors, the treadmill allows you to continue your favorite sport all year long and in the most inclement weather. A treadmill will reduce injuries since you workout on a flat surface that is cushioned. It can add variety to your workout through various challenging programs. And with heart rate control you can optimize your exercising by allowing your heart rate to control the level of exertion.

The appeal of an elliptical is the combined upper and lower body workout, and the low-impact. You exercise more muscle groups, while avoiding the kind of impact that can result in injuries. For those of us whose knees or ankles just cannot take it any longer, the elliptical trainer is the obvious choice.

So which one do you choose? Depending upon your preference and needs either can be an excellent choice.

Home Elliptical Trainers

January 2nd, 2012

I'm considering buying one and just wanted to know what the best one would be for my home personal use. I was happy to learn… I think it is best to start out with the cheaper models. Mainly because a lot of home gym equipment ends up becoming clothes hangers or dust collectors. I would also go and try out the different machines. Go somewhere like dicks sporting goods that will have a decent selection. Try them all out. . I am a fairly large man. . 6'4" 280 lbs. . The smaller ones don't have a long enough stride for me. . . And perhaps it may be too long of a stride for you. I would just go and test them out and buy a cheaper one to see how much you will actually use it. You can always upgrade if you are wearing the one out that you have. Starting out you don't need something tooooo fancy either.

Elliptical Sale

December 31st, 2011

Looking for the best elliptical trainers? Did you know there are over 30 brands on the market – each with several of their own models?

So there are a lot of choices. How do you find the best one for you?

Finding the best elliptical is not really that difficult. Most top quality elliptical trainers share several features that you can look for when shopping to find the best one for you. Here they are:

#1 Proper Stride Length

Stride length is basically the furthest distance between the elliptical pedals. Stride lengths vary from 12″ all the way up to 22″ long. A proper stride length is about 18 – 20″ for most people.

The longer stride more fully works your leg muscles and can give you a more complete calorie-burning workout. Cheaper ellipticals tend to have shorter stride lengths (12 – 16″) so you don't get the most effective workout.

Some people that are under 5'8″ however feel that a 22″ stride is too long for them. You can even find some ellipticals that offer variable strides that you can adjust to suit your taste.

So for example you might use the 18″ stride but your taller spouse may choose to reset the stride length to 22″. Bottom line? The right stride length can give you a much more comfortable workout and can get you faster results in less time.

#2 Proper Ergonomic Design

This is more a function of price and brand than anything else. For example, many cheaper brands don't have the proper leg to arm bar ratio so you can end up leaning on the handrails (and not burning as many calories as you think).

Another thing that cheaper models use are stationary foot pedals. While these are ok, they can contribute to strained ankles and toe numbness after long workouts.

Higher end elliptical brands put more into proper ergonomic design. For example they use the appropriate foot pedal to arm bar ratio. Or they give you articulating foot pedals that follow the natural motion of your ankle to give it support throughout the elliptical motion. For the most part you do get what you pay for so look for a quality elliptical brand with proper ergonomic design.

#3 The Right Flywheel Placement

The design of the elliptical you choose will depend on your preference. For example there are rear drive ellipticals with the flywheel in the back, front drive ellipticals with the flywheel in the front and center drive ellipticals with 2 smaller flywheels on either side of the pedals.

These design differences give you a slightly different elliptical feel. For example. front drive ellipticals tend to have a more sloped feel to the motion, similar to stair climbing. Rear drive ellipticals can feel more flat, similar to running. And center drive is a mix of the two. With a center drive you also feel like you're standing more upright instead of leaning.

#4 Entertainment Options

While you would not necessarily think that the entertainment options you have with an elliptical would make it the best machine for you, it's actually very important.

One reason why people don't exercise is because they get bored. So having an elliptical with an iPod dock, speakers, lots of specialized workouts and tracking tools can keep you using your elliptical for years. It also makes your workout more enjoyable and your time more productive.

So those are 4 key features of the best elliptical trainers. Take your time and do your research. By researching your options, you're much more likely to find an elliptical trainer that you love – and will use for years to come.
